Enjoy a food and wine pairing evening with a difference

In keeping with the trend of increasingly sustainable and healthy living, Spier’s Eight Restaurant brings this eco-friendly ethos to your plates on Saturday, 29 July 2017. Taste the Farm quite literally serves up the delicious harvest of Spier’s own acres in the form of five mouth-watering courses. Each course is a creative dish paired with a gorgeous wine that ignites the flavours of the food.

The fresh ingredients have been lovingly cultivated by Farmer Angus and his team; the cuisine whipped up by Eight’s executive chef Lorianne Heyns (fondly called ‘Chef Lolli’ at Spier). The wine was expertly chosen to bring out the best in each dish by Welma Beukes, extraordinary Sommelier (an expert wine waiter). The dinner demonstrates all three individuals’ dedication to bringing great dining experiences to others. Moreover, it showcases Farmer Angus’s pasture reared beef, pork, free-range chicken and eggs, as well as picks from Spier’s Private Collection, a limited release range.

Along with beautiful food, you will also get a taste of Farmer Angus McIntosh’s approach to biodynamic farming, a form of sustainable farming, to produce food in greener and gentler ways.. Farmer Angus products are on the menu of several selected hotels and restaurants in both Cape Town and the rest of South Africa; the brand’s products, such as its hen eggs, are also available from selected retailers in the city and beyond.

What makes McIntosh’s brand memorable and his produce outstanding is that it really is free-range and organic.  It is produced with the intention of leaving the land better off and healthier than before it was used for livestock rearing (the eggs have a label that reads ‘truly free range’. Farmer Angus products originate from both the McIntosh and the Spier Farms where the chickens and cows live in wide open pastures of green with plenty of freedom and sun. They keep the soil rich and fertile, and are rotated around fields so as not to overuse them. The meat products such as beef mince are also free of additives, water, soya, bread and other things often used by brands to bulk up mince and sausages.

Spier, on the other hand, produces wine that is organically certified, fair trade, and follows the Integrated Production of Wine Scheme, a sustainability scheme that sees that wine is made in environmentally-responsible ways. This on top of Spier being a top vino producer. Your dinner at Eight will therefore be a guilt-free evening of deliciousness, where you can truly savour and fully appreciate all that you taste, with the help of Chef Lolli and Welma Beukes.
