Where to pick fruit and flowers

Fill up on fruit and veg or make your own flower bouquets

Last updated: Monday, 4 September 2023

Fruit, veg and flower picking is a bucket-list activity in Cape Town: You get to spend time outdoors, it’s budget-friendly, and it’s a great way to explore outside of the city. Visit Elgin for an orchard tour, pick strawberries and look at giant scarecrows, or create your own flower arrangements in Stellenbosch.

GO WINE TASTING AFTER YOUR PICKING

De Krans Wine Farm – home of the first Pink port-style wine as well as the first Perlé Moscato wine in South Africa  – allows peach and apricot picking on their farm during summer. There’s a bistro and deli on site for if you get peckish after a few hours in the sun, as well as a tasting room for the wine-lovers.

When to pick: November (apricots) and December (peaches)
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 8am - 4pm
Cost: R10 per kg (peaches) and R9 per kg (apricots)

BUY BLUEBERRY GOODIES TO TAKE HOME

Having opened in 2021, the Blueberry Bar in Paarl is one of the newer fruit picking spots around. Besides blueberries, you can also buy rusks, biscotti, jam and juice all made with the produce.

When to pick: October - December
Opening hours: Saturday to Sunday, 8am - 4pm
Cost: R60pp for a 500g bucket
