Get the tastiest home-cooked food in Sea Point's Main Road!
Neatly tucked away right next to the Shell garage on Main road in Sea Point, the latest addition to this buzzing beach-encompassed suburb now offers home-style chicken at The Chicken Shop.
Owner to the Jarryd’s franchise, Jarryd Segal decided to open shop in Sea Point, which is evidently very close to his heart. After growing up in Sea Point and moving off to Australia, Jarryd brought this Australian-style Chicken Shop concept to the streets of Cape Town after spending 15 years abroad. “Over there, every suburb’s got a chicken shop,” explains Jarryd. “It’s a holistic food offering,” exclaims Jarryd with pride.
With The Chicken Shop following suit with the international standards of home-style foods, all of The Chicken Shop's meat and chicken are ethically sourced, with chicken from Elgin. Jarryd prides himself on. Rest assured, all the fruit and vegetables are herbicide and pesticide free.
Walking into The Chicken Shop, the beautiful aromas of delicious flavours whisks you away to the counter before you, with home-cooked bowls of mac and cheese smiling at you, nestled between the baby potatoes, wedges, sides and fresh salads of the day. Every day new variations of side dishes and salads are on offer to go with the rotisserie chicken, depending on which fruits and veggies are seasonally available.
The eatery boasts their charcoal rotisserie chicken, which makes use of alternative fuels to flame lick their tasty chicken. “We want to go back to the basics of cooking, cooking by clay or cooking with fire,” says Jarryd. Starting at one end of the eatery, pick how you want your chicken made: either from the traditional rotisserie or the Portuguese spatchcock, cooked to perfection over Namibian hardwood charcoal, which is all-natural and chemical free. Pick your marinade, and/or sides and salads, and voila… A delicious home-style meal courtesy of The Chicken Shop.
Although The Chicken Shops sister outlet, Jarryds is also inspired by Australian eateries, the breakfast-lunch café, offers casual, relaxed dining, as opposed to The Chicken Shop, which focuses more on takeaway soul food. The Chicken Shop may not have intended to have people sit-in, the limited table seating, coupled with the hip vibe, leaving the tasty smelling establishment is close to impossible to leave.
With The Chicken Shop staff working to give you the best home-styled food you’ve ever purchased over the counter, and Jarryd dishing plates for patrons, the vibe is very fast-paced in a way that appeals to all. The new Sea Point hotspot welcomes banting fans, vegetarians, the home-cooked carnivore, and the young at heart who simply wants a good plate of food that they didn’t spend hours preparing for a change.
The concept of The Chicken Shop was focused towards takeaways, which led Jarryd and his team to creating a big production kitchen, allowing them to cater to a large number of people, limiting the seats for sit-downs, and even though the point of this new joint was not to invite people to stay, there’s something about the space that makes me want to. “The design of the space was supposed to be quite fun, cheeky and quirky, but still have a touch of class and finesse,” says Jarryd, and The Chicken Shop, evidently has tons thereof. The Chicken Shop displays pops of yellow on grey walls, with fire wood on display between the ceiling and the walls, finishing off the unconventional look. Patrons can also expect to find a very tongue-in-cheek water vessel on the side, between two tables to sanitize their hands before consuming the delicious finger-licking chicken.
Tip: The Chicken Shop will be available on Mr. Delivery soon. Keep your eyes peeled to The Chicken Shops Facebook page for updates.
Note: Try The Chicken Shop’s opening special called The Chicken Shops plate: a quarter chicken, a selection of salads and sides of your choice for only R90! Give Jarryd and his team a call for delivery straight to your door!
