While the weather is cooling down, the Robertson Wine Valley is simmering with a four-day long vino-themed affair. That’s right folks! The 2017 Wacky Wine Weekend is back again, with a focus on the area’s wonderful wines and the stories behind the bottles. We’re lucky enough to be the first to have the details on the 2017 wine extravaganza, which is taking place from Thursday, 1, until Sunday, 4 June 2017. Get your tickets from Webtickets.co.za before they sell out, or visit the beautiful Wacky Wine Weekend website to find out more.
MORE ABOUT THE 2017 WACKY WINE WEEKEND IN THE ROBERTSON WINE VALLEY
Roughly 90 minutes from Cape Town, the region is situated along Route 62, which is believed to be the longest wine route in the world, between the Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountain ranges. It encompasses Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson, so there’ll be plenty of terrific terroirs to taste. With more than 40 wine farms and boutique producers taking part, the 14th edition of this annual grape affair is set to feature some of the finest wares from the area as well as outstanding local entertainment.
Guests will be able to use the popular coupon system to enjoy free tastings at each participating winery, many of which are award-winning and internationally renowned. Part of the joy of this event is the fact that it encourages one to explore the beautiful and historically rich valley, which is not only known for its wines, but also for its food.
Each of the farms, wineries and tourist establishments will have a feast of special activities planned with the intent of showcasing the best beverages and produce the area offers. Join the throngs of other wine lovers meandering between estates, sampling sublime vintages, delighting in live entertainment, meeting the knowledgeable winemakers, taking part in tutored tastings and embracing the unparalleled serenity of country life.
There’ll be myriad fine dining opportunities for foodies, multiple outdoor adventures for adrenaline junkies and plenty of kiddie-friendly activities to keep little ones engaged. From wine and food pairings and informative wine presentations to simply soaking up the scenic surrounds and enjoying a bottle or two with friends, there’s something for everyone at this laid-back festival.
With an emphasis on staying true to our roots, it’s all about showing local producers some love. Tuck into a braai-fondue at Rietvallei, add your love lock to the wall of romance at Rooiberg, soak in the soulful jazz music at the Lord's Wines' MCC Soirée, take part in the MTB race at Robertson Winery or take your little one to the petting zoo at Wolvendrift Wines.
If you can, be sure to book a special pairing experience at Esona Boutique Winery. Owned by a husband and wife team, the quaint estate is surrounded by vines, and the wines are in a league of their own. The whole experience is accentuated by the fact that the pairing takes place in an ancient cellar, lit by candles, with beeswax still evident on the walls from the original vats of wine.
