Table Mountain has made it into the final round of the New 7 Wonders of Nature contest beating the Atacama Desert in Chile, the Azure Window in Malta and the Rock of Aphrodite in Cyprus for a spot on the shortlist.
The top 28 wonders from around the world were announced on Tuesday July 21, by the New7Wonders Foundation in Zurich, Switzerland.
The finalists include legendary sites such as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Grand Canyon in the USA and the Amazon in South America.
The nominations started with over 261 other nominees from around the world and Table Mountain must now compete for a place among the top 7 wonders to be announced in 2011.
Table Mountain is the one of only two African sites to have made the prestigious list, along with Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The much-loved landmark beat fellow contender Sossusvlei in Namiba in round three of the international competition.

You can only vote once each round, with one e-mail address, so show your support for the Mother City by voting for Table Mountain in tthe final votin round.
The official New 7 Wonders of the World campaign was a resounding success, in which more than 100 million votes were cast.
Now, the second campaign organized by the non-profit New7Wonders Foundation, to choose the New7Wonders of Nature, is off to a promising start: some 430 nominations from 224 different countries were submitted by some half a million people within the first few months of the campaign.
Whether she is basking in the morning sun, or allowing us to tell what the weather will be like by just looking up at her table cloth of clouds, she is and always will be apart of our lives.
Whether you are a visitor or a local, when you are staring at her from your office window, the beach or on a post card because you are a million miles away there is no denying that there is a piece of your heart embedded in her.
Be sure to cast you vote and to tell your friends and family, and their friends and their families about this and get Table Mountain on the map as one of the New7Wonders of Nature, because if you don’t vote the world will not know what you know about the magnificence of Table Mountain.
Voting for the New 7 Wonders of Nature, as chosen by popular vote from the 28 finalists will now resume and continue throughout 2010 and into 2011 when the Official New 7 Wonders of Nature will be announced.
People who voted in the initial stage to name the top 77 site must now vote again in the final phase to name the top 7 sites.
The official New7Wonders of Nature will be revealed on 11 November 2011.
