Modern French cuisine paired with top South African wines at Cape Town’s new La Mouette restaurant
Celebrated London Chef Henry Vigar and South African entrepreneurs Gerrit Bruwer and Mari Vermaak have teamed up to open Cape Town’s newest finer dining restaurant.La Mouette is situated in Regent Road Seapoint and housed in a grand Tudor-style house which once was home to the Mayor of Cape Town (1977 – 1979). Its menu offers patrons modern French cuisine with a distinctly Mediterranean influence complimented by top South African wines.
As we’re preparing to open, we’re looking forward to...welcoming the foodies of Cape Town first and foremost and in that creating a space where everyone will have a lovely time, paired by excellent food and wine with friendly and professional service.
We’ve called it... La Mouette which means seagull in French. This reflects Henry’s cooking style and inspiration, as well as the masses of seagulls that live nearby and are constantly circling the skies above the restaurant.
When you walk into our space, you immediately... feel relaxed and at home in the haven that we have created in the middle of busy and colourful Seapoint. We have taken great care in establishing a neutral, yet stylish environment with understated features dating back to the 1930’s.
What makes us different to all the other restaurants in the area is... first of all the style of Henry’s food, which we believe to be very unique to the specific area and then also the actual space (and lots of it). We have three inside dining rooms with working fireplaces, a private dining room with fireplace and a massive outside courtyard area with fountain.
Our English chef,Henry Vigar, along with Team La Mouette ... is pleased to bring you... Modern French inspired dishes to suit the South African climate and local produce. The menu was designed to suit everyone with a variety of different dishes within a set price concept.
Your taste buds will be delighted with our... variety of tapas style dishes to share whilst deciding on what to order, as well as our rib of beef for two, served with a variety of three of Henry’s homemade French-style sauces and two side dishes of your choice. We encourage communal eating and believe that the dining experience at La Mouette creates the perfect environment for tasting and sharing and just generally having a great time in a restaurant!
We’d also suggest you try... our seasonal cocktail, which at the moment is an espresso martini from our drinks menu.
And your sweet tooth will be impressed by... signature dessert, the ‘gin and tonic’ because... of its unique taste combination which brings your meal to a perfect ending. Palate cleanser and dessert in one!
We would like to welcome... people from all over Cape Town and beyond to come and enjoy our ‘finer dining’ style food as well as enjoy our beautiful building and courtyard as much as we do.
We also cater for...private functions in either our Private Dining Room (seats up to 10 people) or in one of our three other dining rooms (up to 30 people each sit down, 50 standing). We can host exclusive hires for up to 100 guests also. Regrettably no pets allowed.
We can accommodate... 150 guests per service and booking... is advisable and preferred in order for Team La Mouette to accommodate you to the best of our ability.
The main reason you should give us a try is... because our food is wonderfully colourful and exciting and also because we have always wanted to open a restaurant in Cape Town. We are young and enthusiastic to create something unique that leads to a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. We are passionate about what we do and believe in our product. We hope you do too!
