Why go wine tasting in the Winelands, when you can do it at a Tulum-style beach club, with palm trees and thatched cabanas spread out over the white sand. That’s where Seaside Sip & Savour will happen on 26 October, where you can taste wines from 25 estates with your own sommelier, dance on the sand, and dine from Grand Africa Café and Beach’s elegant menu.

What sets Seaside Sip & Savour apart from a regular wine tasting is the sheer variety of wines that you can taste. It’s an event for both wine lovers and novices, with stalls manned by owners and top sommeliers to guide and educate you about the various wines.
Event founder Evarist Tshimanga (also known as Chim), who’s been a tasting room manager at estates like Zorgvliet and Jordan, started Chim’s Wine Tasting Events in 2022 to champion local wines.
“We’re making good wine. We need to market that,” says Chim. Attendees of Chim’s Wine Tastings come from everywhere; locals, Americans, Germans, the French…

And the location couldn’t be more glamorous. With its opulent white and gold decor, glass chandeliers, cherubs carved into the bar, and white leather couches for lounging, Grand Africa Café and Beach at the V&A is one of Cape Town’s most iconic party venues.
On the day you’ll be able to sample wines from some of South Africa’s best estates. Simonsig, famous for being the first estate in South Africa to make MCC sparkling wine, will be in attendance (which is a treat, as they usually don’t appear at events).
Nederburg, which is one of the country’s oldest estates with a history stretching back to 1791, will be there too. Nederburg’s Private Bin range has won the World’s Best award at the International Wine Challenge.

You’ll also discover some exciting smaller estates like Zoetendal. Co-owned by a member of the Venda royal family, it's got award-winning boutique wines like The Monarch (a rich blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot).
Her Wines from Wellington, owned and run by women of colour, is another standout. It’s celebrated for The Lady syrah, an award-winning wine with rich, dark fruit flavours and spicy notes.
There’s also Eagles Nest Wine Estate in Constantia, which produces high-quality, small-batch wines. Their shiraz, in particular, elegantly captures the essence of the Constantia terroir.
For a full list of all wine estates that will be present, see the Chim’s Wine Tasting website.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Grand Africa Café and Beach without an elevated menu of dining options. Guests can choose between a wagyu burger, whole roasted chicken with two sides, kingklip and mussels in a rich Indo-Indian broth, or an olive and caper pasta. That’s if you’re a VIP guest.
You and your partner also have a private table, a bottle of MCC and a sommelier, who will bring the wines to you — no need to visit the stalls.
There’ll also be live DJ performances on the day. And make sure to look out for the guest music artist announcement on the Instagram page, @chims_wine_tasting_events.
