World Hoop Day Picnic with Hoop Flow Love in Noordhoek

Head to Noordhoek for a hula, hula hoop kind of day!

“Like a hula, hula hoop, hula, hula hoop, oh”... the dance song by Omi goes. And who doesn’t love (trying) the hula, hula hoop? Hula hooping is actually an activity enjoyed by people of all ages – and not just children, as is sometimes wrongly assumed – all around the world. In fact, it is so popular that it even has its own special day. Saturday, 7 October is World Hoop Day and there is something super cool (or shall we say positively hoopy?) going down at the Noordhoek Common from 10:30am on the day.

In celebration of World Hoop Day, local hoop dance company Hoop Flow Love have organised a World Hoop Day Picnic for hula hoop enthusiasts, or for anyone interested in twisting and turning! The event is free and open to anyone so bring your friends, family, food and festive spirit for a day of fun. And don’t forget your hula hoop. While the main aim of the picnic is to have fun, Hoop Flow Love are also hoping to raise some money for their NPO, Circles of Life, which aims to bring flow-arts to under-resourced communities across South Africa. It’s a great cause so do consider taking some extra cash along.

As a little added bonus, the organisers have announced that there may or may not be a selection of hooping workshops on the day!

Based in Ndabeni near Pinelands, Hoop Flow Love specialise in incorporating hoops into the various dance and fitness routines they teach. Hoop Flow Love’s work is driven by three main values: Hoop, Flow and Love. Hoop, the first of the values, pertains to the fact that they craft their own hoops. Their designs are always evolving and with each hoop they craft, they learn more and more. Flow speaks to the style of dance that the company uses in their hoop teachings. Finally, love is what underpins the work they do with their outreach programme, Circles of Life.
