Many of us may have seen LeBron James or Michael Jordan run the NBA court but be sure to check out budding young basketball players (possibly the next MJ or LeBron?) on Saturday, 16 and Sunday, 17 June when the Youth Day Classics will be played at the CTICC. This two-day basketball tournament is a showcase of young talent from all around the world and is hosted by African Grassroot Hoops (AGH).
BUILDING BRIDGES
The two-day tournament features U19 boys and girls from all over the world. Young athletes will showcase their talent and represent their native countries. The tournament is taking place on two indoor courts in the CTICC and by the end of the tournament AGH aim to break down barriers and build bridges across cultures.
AFRICAN GRASSROOT HOOPS
AGH is a non-profit organisation aimed at youth development, using the basketball court as a vehicle with which to achieve this. They bring basketball to underprivileged areas in and around the Mother City by building and revamping public basketball courts.
The driving force behind this initiative is to bring hope and empowerment to young underprivileged boys and girls. AGH strive for positive development in a space where youngsters can healthily express themselves and cultivate skills.
