Experience serenity and tranquility within the hustle and bustle of Cape Town’s CBD at this intimate boutique hotel.
Tucked away in a cosy cul de sac, a mere 200 meters from Kloof Street, you’ll find The Parkhouse Hotel. Proving that you needn’t leave the city to enjoy peace and quiet; this boutique hotel is situated in a clove that cancels out the commotion; the coming and goings of the trendy surrounding area.
This is not to say that you are completely detached. Being a stone's throw away from the most popular streets in the city (Long Street is 700 meters away and Bree Street is just over a kilometre away) gives you the option to immerse yourself in the irresistible excitement of the CBD, and to retreat from the rush for some much welcomed R&R when needed. With the helpful staff on-hand to cater to your desires, you’ll feel well taken care of.
“We always go over and above for our guests,” Storm Morrisby shares. The friendly front-of-house assistant welcomes me with a complimentary glass of bubbly that sparkles as bright as her infectious personality. Taking me through the contemporary hotel she shares that they plan fun outings, make restaurant reservations and even organise airport transfers for guests upon request. Moving from one room to the next she explains the inspiration behind the interior, each room proving as creative and Instagram or Pinterest worthy as the last.
The Parkhouse Hotel boats eight chic double rooms, all individually themed. Think geometric refinery with a twist; clean polished lines and minimalist multifunctional spaces with a sophisticated flair. All rooms appear to be the perfect marriage between modernity and opulent elegance. All rooms have a large luxurious bed you can let yourself be gobbled up by, a flat screen TV, central heating, power showers and some even have private balconies (guests who stay in the rooms that don’t have full access to the communal deck found on the second floor of the hotel).
You get a sense that there is both a commitment to swanky modernity and the celebration of earth when you walk through the intimate hotel. The unique hotel prides itself on being as eco-friendly as possible, while maintaining their premium class service delivery. Their glorious power showers are water efficient and the warm water you enjoy is provided by the numerous solar powered geysers they’ve installed. The Parkhouse has also implemented the first successful recycling collection system in the area, and collects recyclable trash from the community. Not only is the hotel preservational in their use of energy but in their use of space. This is evident in the way they’ve designed and decorated their latest additions; mod pods.
The cosy room looks like wealth. The mauve wall paint compliments the white linen, cool grey headboard and throw perfectly. I notice the artistic lampshade; a feature piece made of previously owned glasses. I marvel that the room is mostly made of the glorious bed I mentioned earlier - impossible to peel yourself away from, your own little piece of heaven. My accommodation for the evening, however, is the ‘visa plus’ room upstairs. I grab my bubbly, Storm helps me get set up then leaves me to relax on the private balcony of my room. Nursing my drink I immediately appreciate the peaceful tranquility of the secluded area. With sound of playful pigeons and starlings breaking through the pleasurable silence I consider extending my stay indefinitely.
The Parkhouse Hotel doesn’t offer meals (they offer complimentary espressos, cappuccinos, coffee and rusks) but Storm will always recommend a number of reputable restaurants they have a good relationship with. “Your happiness is what’s most important to us. If we can do anything to facilitate that then we consider our job done,” Storm affirms.
We love: the interior design. The edgy geometric lampshades, feature walls, muted colours and minimalist decorating add to the sophisticated style of the avant garde hotel.
The Bill: will depend on which unit you book. The standard rates for the mod pod rooms is R1590 per night, the street view rooms are R1690 per night. The three vista rooms go for R1790 per unit and the exclusive courtyard room is R2490 per night. During the winter months The Parkhouse Hotel runs a winter special where their rates go down by 40%
Booking a night at The Parkhouse Hotel: can be done directly on Phdirect.co.za or by emailing info@theparkhouse.co.za or you can call +27 (0) 21 424 6913
