Even the kids can join for a leisurely cycle around Cape Town
Even if you haven't heard of Up Cycles, you've probably seen the iconic orange bicycle leisurely go past in the V&A Waterfront, Green Point, Sea Point or even Camps Bay, carrying teens, parents and even toddlers in carriages.
You would think that cycling around the city is mostly a tourist activity, but 80% of Up Cycles’s client’s in the Silo District, next to the V&A Waterfront are actually locals, says Up Cycles store attendee, Emily Nhachi.

“South Africans love exploring their own cities," she adds. Cape Town, with its sun-drenched promenade, giant Green Point Urban Park and endless ocean views, is beautiful, and one of the easiest ways to take it all in is on a bike.
The fleet of bikes at Up Cycles can be adjusted for child seats and carriages for toddlers. If your day is open, the route along Granger Bay, past Beach Road and onto the promenade, is a favourite because you'll get to cycle next to the ocean on your way there and back. A popular and lesser-known route is along the Waterfront swing bridge up to Three Anchor Bay.

"Customers love passing the Lindt Company," says Nhachi, which is exactly where this route will take you. You'll cycle past the Cape Grace Hotel towards the Cape Wheel and along the swing bridge over the canal with a stop at the Lindt Company to treat your efforts.
No matter which route you take the area is mostly flat, which means everyone can do the cycle with little effort. Plus, if you get too tired to cycle back, drop your bike off at one of the three Up Cycles stations in Sea Point, Camps Bay or the V&A Waterfront. A great way to stay ahead is to follow the nifty Up Cycles map.
