There are approximately zero instances where I would voluntarily go to a boot camp. Ever. At least, that’s what I thought before I learnt that there was a boot camp that involved beer (okay, you have my attention). On Thursday, 13 July 2017, Beer Boot Camp and Beerhouse are teaming up for this event; the only boot camp worth the effort.
Now, you’ll be relieved to know that it involves no physical exercise (other than opening your mouth to sip and chew). The head brewers from five local breweries will be in attendance to show you exactly how to pair their beers, and with what! This is a tasting experience made in heaven for beer lovers and foodies alike. Each course will be paired with a different beer, and the beermakers from that brewery will teach you a little more about the flavours in their beers, and which type of flavours they complement. This will truly take your dinner parties to a whole new level. Wine pairing? Everyone does one of those. Beer pairings, however, are an exciting addition to the Cape Town foodie scene.
The brewers taking part come from some of the most popular brewers in the Cape. Namely, you’ll be able to learn vital pairing info from Devil’s Peak Brewing Company, Cape Brewing Company, Darling Brew, Jack Black Beer and Woodstock Brewery. Between them, they are responsible for some of the most iconic brews in the entire province (and are well worth a visit individually, just so you know).
I bet you’re wondering by now who is in charge of the culinary aspect; I mean, you can’t pair good beer with mediocre food. Well, foodies rejoice because the tempting eats will be provided by Piet Marais, the creative vision behind Santa Anna’s and he even won the Ultimate Braai Master (remember? It was that show that made everyone hungry all the time?). Marais will develop a menu that perfectly compliments the various beers he has been given, and you’ll be able to taste the end result (expect culinary majesty when the two come together).
