The Mother City expands its service delivery footprint
Last Update 9 May 2017
The City of Cape Town has implemented an impressive state-of-the-art technological upgrade which is the first of its kind in South Africa. The Public Emergency Communication Centre’s (PECC) latest facility will feature the EPIC (Emergency Policing and Incident Command) system which looks to improve call time and response to emergencies in Cape Town.
The system was designed to ensure that safety and security departments could function at optimal capacity and provide improved service delivery to the City’s residents and visitors.
EPIC is the first system used by the PECC to provide integrated call-taking and dispatching capability across all the City’s emergency services. The system has been described as revolutionary as it enables call takers to identify where the necessary resources are and their status as well as enabling them to dispatch the closest available resource along the best route.
Further there is a real-time feedback on the system which keeps up-to-date with the status of the emergency. The features of the EPIC system will enable the the city to improve service delivery and manage resources more effectively.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman Smith quipped that, “[it is a] testament to the City’s commitment through the Organisational Development and Transformation Plan to build a safer city for all”
The PECC can be contacted by calling +27(0)21 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
