Santa visits the Mother City to see what Joy from Africa’s all about
Oh la la!
Café Oh! is also open during the day
Have you ever been to the clubs (for example Assembly) on Harrington Street in the east of Cape Town’s City Bowl? Then maybe Café Oh! already has your attention since it’s located on the way to these clubs. Not bigger than a garage (but with a huge Bridget Bardot poster) and with comfortable highchairs directly on the sidewalk, the café serves all late night revelers hot coffee, delicious crêpes, croissants and sweet desserts.
The stand-up café exists since January 2011, and since April it’s also open during the day. "I couldn’t sleep during the night, because sometimes there were traffic jams on the road since everybody wants to go to the clubs", says Rae Goodwin, who owns the shop together with her partner Stephane Gibourdel. "That’s why I had the idea to establish a shop which focuses on partying students."
Since the shop has been open during the day, the target audiences are passers-by and tourists, which are visiting the nearby District Six Museum. I spot the café and quickly start a chat with Rae, and the native Capetonian tells me with a laugh: "We want a word-of-mouth advertising for our café. For now we’ll keep it small and cozy, because I want to keep on having fun!”
