Sexy Groovy Love The Beach is a 12-hour party at the beloved Grand Africa Café & Beach. An experience that’s as glamorous as the setting, and with a three-course set menu and DJs like Floyd Lavine (local legend with an afro house sound), Abby Nurock (who only plays on vinyl), and international acts Rafael and Omri.

With its opulent white and gold decor, glass chandeliers, cherubs carved into the bar, and white leather couches for lounging, Grand Africa is one of Cape Town’s most iconic party venues.
Sitting right on the sea-front shoreline, guests are treated to near-panoramic views of the sparkling Atlantic Ocean from their table on the beach.
Walk in and you’ll feel like you’re in a Tulum beach club, with palm trees and thatched cabanas spread out over the white sand. It’s no surprise, then, that Sexy Groovy Love has chosen this space for their first party of 2024.
The event is 21-and-over, which makes for a more sophisticated party befitting such a glamorous venue. Party like you’re in Ibiza below the ultra-Instagrammable hanging heart and giant disco ball or capture your fit with the ocean as your backdrop.

The festival kicks off at 2pm with Devi, who plays alternative house and uplifting disco. A stand-out performance will be Cape Town-born Floyd Lavine, who’s been featured on BBC Music and Vogue Italia and is internationally renowned for his unique afro-house sound.
There are two international acts to look out for: Rafael, who pulls influences from techno; and Omri, who is known for infusing the occasional bluesy vocals and plays his extensive library of self-produced and unreleased music.
When the party moves from the outdoor cabanas to the indoor party, Abby Nurock will head up a performance completely on vinyl (which any festival fan will know is an impressive feat).

It wouldn’t be Grand Africa without an elevated food offering: A three-course set menu under the white beach umbrellas.
The menu will be released closer to the time, but a wagyu burger, grilled peri-peri prawns and oyster trio (with fennel and apple, tomato salsa, and wasabi and pickled ginger) are some of the meals normally served at Grand Africa.
And the cocktail menu is just as opulent (there’s almost too many to mention): cucumber and pineapple daiquiri, Cape summer G&T, spiced samedi, vanilla colada…
For a more private setting, table bookings are available, with tables set up on the beach behind the dance area. You’ll feel distant enough from the dancefloor, but still part of the liveliness of the party.
Two stages, three courses and nine DJs. Image: Sexy Groovy Love
Tickets are either general access or table tickets (which include your table and table service). Tickets start from R950 and can be purchased through Howler.
Take an Uber or share a ride, as parking will be very limited with over 1 000 partygoers expected.
Sexy Groovy Love The Beach, with 12 hours of music and a three-course set menu at one of Cape Town’s most chic beach clubs, is the most glamorous way to celebrate the start of the new year.
