Pizzas, pals and boozy slushies – name a better night out. 

The new hot spot on Kloof Street (next to Yours Truly) is a little pizza joint called OLD PAL. There’s boozy slushies, massive pizza slices and soft-serve ice cream. It’s the kind of place you want to hangout with friends and listen to vinyl DJs.

IF THE ‘90S WERE A HANGOUT 

'80s diner meets '90s hangout at OLD PAL. The retro space is curiously decorated with big Coca Cola bottles, neon signs, boxing gloves, chequered tiles, old-school brand logos like Pepsi Cola and road signs, and vintage photographs (including the iconic pic of Madiba looking the epitome of cool in NY clothing).

It’s quite an intimate space, with only a handful of bar tables inside and a few tables spilling onto the street. You can expect classic 80s, 90s, and early 2000s bops playing in the background, plus live vinyl DJs playing between Thursday and Saturday.

BOOZY (AND NON-BOOZY) SLUSHIES

OLD PAL has a real treat on the menu: Alcoholic slushies. There’s pina colada, mojito, strawberry daiquiri, mango daiquiri or margarita. You can order by the glass, or a jug to share with friends. There’s also lemonade or iced coffee non-alcoholic slushies.

GIANT PIZZAS AND SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM

The pizzas are massive (think traditional New York pizza size), which is great for sharing with your mates. There’s everything from your classic Margarita, Regina and Pepperoni to the chef's special (which changes regularly). For dessert you can treat yourself to an old-school soft serve and flake (pick between chocolate or vanilla), or vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or Oreo milkshake.

The curious decor, massive sharing pizzas, slushie jugs and 90s music makes for a vibey night out with your pals.
