Beautiful Butterfly World
Visit this Winelands paradise and be privileged to see resting butterflies, exotic spiders and scary scorpions up close!
Butterfly World is one of the more unique attractions of the Western Cape Winelands and is located near the small Boland town of Klapmuts - very accessible to the many tourists visiting the area.
Consisting of a tropical garden in a 1000 square metre green-house, this magnificent abode allows for all the free flying exotic butterflies to feel right at home.
Butterfly World imports 500-800 butterfly pupae per week all year round, and the butterflies emerge into their tropical gardens.
Tropical butterflies are raised on breeding farms in countries such as Costa Rica, Philippines, Malaysia and China.
Besides housing some of the world’s most beautiful creatures, Butterfly World is also home to a beautiful garden that hosts a large aviary, a meerkat enclosure and lots of free range ducks, chickens and goats, who are just waiting for children to feed them!
New ideas are consistently being implemented at Butterfly World, as is apparent in the Martin Filmer Spider Room and the large iguana cage.
Displays of indigenous and exotic spiders and scorpions that are housed in locked glass terraria, dispenses many myths and fears surrounding these eight legged creatures.
The gift shop has butterfly related items for sale and the Jungle Leaf Café provides light meals and refreshments for those taking a break from butterfly watching.
Butterfly world is situated at Route 44, Klapmuts (near Stellenbosch and Paarl), Cape Winelands.
