The Windsor Hotel in Hermanus offers travellers something unique: spacious rooms with spectacular sea views, right on the town’s impressive Cliff Path, at a reasonable price. Plus it has a great special running from now till the end of August, during whale season.
Finding family-friendly accommodation in Hermanus can be a challenge, not least because many hotels or bed and breakfasts are expensive, especially if set on the sea. However, Windsor Hotel’s special deal makes a sea-facing room (from where you can see whales) very affordable to holidaymakers and families.
Hermanus is a 120km scenic drive from Cape Town. The town has been a health destination for almost a century. It was known for its healing air, said to increase the appetite and aid deep sleep. The Windsor Hotel is situated in a prime position: just off the cliffs, against which waves crash, sending plumes of moist spray into the air. People do sleep and eat well here, says Marketing Manager Madeleine Smuts.
The Windsor Hotel is on the edge of Hermanus’s breathtaking Walker Bay and has a panoramic view of the bay. Southern right whales have been breeding and feeding here for centuries (primarily during winter and spring, from July to November), and scenes of whales playing and breaching in the waters can be seen from most rooms. This is why guests have been returning, generation after generation, to delight in this spectacle.
The 125-year-old hotel is also close to the town's centre and its many restaurants, galleries, museums and shops, plus there’s a wide variety of activities to do in the area, from kayaking to zip-lining. The best part is, once you’re there, everything is in walking distance.
While the hotel has been modernised, it has retained its family atmosphere with a homely hospitality. Stay in a non-sea facing room for only R400 per person sharing per night, or opt for the incredible views in a sea-facing room for only R600 per person sharing per night. Traveling with kids? One child under 12 stays for free when sharing with two adults, and breakfast is included in all rates.
Insider Tip: When making a booking, ask for two interleading rooms (two rooms with a door in a wall shared by both). Alternatively, opt for a self-catering apartment at the special rate of from R1 750 per night for 4 guests and from R2 100 per night for 6 guests, and R2 000 and R2400 respectively on weekends.
The Windsor Hotel’s special offer is available until the end of August 2021. Take advantage of this deal for the upcoming Easter weekend or any of the upcoming national holidays that take place before the end of August at the Windsor Hotel.
