Kuier@TheCastle is more than a market. It’s the biggest family-friendly lifestyle event in the city.
Besides browsing the 100+ makers, you can try cupcake candle crafting, painting your own sneakers, micro-mosaic jewellery making, and more. Here are eight reasons to visit on Saturday 29 March.

Kuier@TheCastle is where you will meet creative makers, hear their stories, and find unique pieces you won’t see anywhere else. Whether you’re looking for home decor, fashion, or gifts, you’ll find something special while connecting with the people behind the craft.
It’s also the perfect environment to spend time with the family! There’s plenty to keep everyone busy, from hands-on kids workshops to 100+ vendors for ouma to browse.
Bring the whole family: Kids under seven get in for free, and it's R15 for pensioners and students. For everyone else, it’s just R30.
Get a taste of what the market is like:
From the smorgasbord of over 100 makers, some of our favourite crafters include Kingsdale Emporio (with their tongue-in-cheek, conversation-starter statement socks) and Whimiscal Collection, who do dreamy prints.
Another one we love is Book Boxes. These beautiful boxes, which are crafted from old and damaged books, are a sweet way to store sentimental mementos.
When you’re browsing, consider popping by Gypsum Addiction, one of the new vendors this month. They make eco-friendly and non-toxic candles and trinket trays.

A host of new vendors are joining this month thanks to Kuier’s recent collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
These vendors, which are supported by the CDI’s Market Readiness Project, are talented crafters from Worcester, Hermanus, and Swellendam. The project will conclude with a special pop-up at this month’s market.

You also get access to all the museums and exhibitions at the 385-year-old Castle of Good Hope, like the Koena Art Institute, where you can see Khoisan art, film screenings, and the phenomenal Fired Exhibition of ceramics.

The market opens at 10am and closes at 2pm. People tend to stay for a couple of hours, wandering from stall to stall and into the nooks and crannies of the Castle. The market is in the square under stretch tents, and a harvest table and comfy bean bags are scattered everywhere.

At March’s workshops, you can try drumming, flamenco dancing, and even biodanza, which uses movement and music to promote mental, physical, and spiritual health.
Or craft micro-mosaic jewellery, learn to crochet, and even paint your shoes.
Kids will love the garden party workshop, where they’ll make an edible garden. Open to all ages, you decorate a bunny-shaped cookie and create a flower pot cupcake with icing and a floral biscuit.
There’s creative workshops for all ages and a dedicated Kids Creative Corner. Image: Kuier@TheCastle
This month, you can look forward to Ty’s Bagels, Cape Malay, Ground Culture, Your Local Brew, Cape Brownies, Sophie’s Kitchen, Speedo Juice, and a selection of local beers and gins.
There's lots of seating to grab after you've gotten your food. Image: Kuier@TheCastle
It’s easy access to the Castle via Darling Street, there’s a side pathway. There are also arrows and signage on the street poles to point people to where the parking is. Plus, there’s plenty of security.
