Cricket fans, listen up! ‘Tis the season to be bowled over, and our very own Proteas are gearing up to go up against the boys clad in maroon from the Caribbean at the Newlands Stadium on Friday, 9 January 2015 in the first of three T20 matches in South Africa.
The Proteas have a lot to prove, coming off a T20 loss against the Aussie team while on tour in Sydney. Our boys, who are currently in fourth place in the ICC ranking, were defeated by two runs and will be looking to redeem themselves on home soil. Local fans can look forward to seeing bowler Wayne Parnell bringing the heat to the pitch, with help from hotshot wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock and team captain Faf Du Plessis.
The West Indies are currently ranked No.8 in the world and have faced plenty of hurdles this year, like the cancellation of the Indian Tour earlier in the year. Fans can be sure to catch players like Dwayne Bravo and Kraigg Brathwaite. Youngster and newcomer to the West Indies side Brathwaite has become an integral part of the team as an opening batsman.
South Africa has been going from strength to strength on the international front, but our boys need our support as their T20 game isn’t as impressive as their test and ODI skills. Head down to leafy green Newlands with friends or family, bring all the gees and get set for some action-packed cricket.
