Women and the female form have long been associated with the natural world and vice versa; think Mother Nature and Mother Earth. There are also countless metaphors and idioms about women, beauty, wildness and more. The Cavalli Gallery at Cavalli Estate in Somerset West presents an exhibition of work that offers a visual interpretation of this theme and concept through the work of a selection of excellent local artists. Get a first look at this beautiful showcase of art at the opening event on Sunday, 10 September 2017.
Nature as a woman –or woman as nature – is not a new theme in the world of art. Arguably one of the best-known examples is French post-impressionist Henri Rousseau’s ‘The Dream’, which depicts a naked woman reclining on a sofa in a tropical forest, with dangerous animals lurking nearby.
Expect the unexpected in Lady Garden, and many new takes on nature and women.
ARTISTS TAKING PART IN THE LADY GARDEN GROUP EXHIBITION AT THE CAVALLI GALLERY
The Cavalli Gallery is a light and airy space on the stunning wine and stud farm, with translucent ceilings that add a further lightness to the room. The gallery aims to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their work as a means to encourage the growth of South African art.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to the opening, though; the exhibition runs until Sunday, 3 December 2017. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10am and 6pm.
ENTRY TO THE 2017 LADY GARDEN GROUP EXHIBITION OPENING AT THE CAVALLI GALLERY
Entrance to the opening evening and the exhibition in general is free. The opening event takes place from 4pm to 6pm.
For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact the organisers via gallery@cavalliestate.com or on +27 (0)21 855 3218.
