Wine cellar & play areas, with the food you know and love
Last updated: 23 July 2024
Spur might have refreshed its iconic logo and restaurants, but it’s still the setting of treasured memories. It remains the place to go for boisterous kids’ parties, family dinners with ouma and oupa, awkward teenage first dates…
Spur’s revamped branches have some great new features, like a wine cellar with Anthonij Rupert and Beyerskloof wines, yet still serves the burgers and ribs we all know and love.

When Spur Steak Ranches opened its first store in 1967, it aimed to create a new kind of restaurant. One in which kids weren’t only welcomed but celebrated; where sticky fingers were the sign of a meal well savoured and where spills were part of the thrills. Since then, it’s become the number one restaurant for South Africans.
The recent revamps across the country are “designed to reflect the vibrance and diversity of South African families,” says Vuya Henda, Spur chief marketing officer. The two redesigned restaurants in Cape Town are Golden Spur (Rondebosch) and Texas Spur (N1 City Mall).

Spur has kept the Indigenous American chief logo, but given him a sleek, stylized look. This goes for the other changes too.
The interior, now with modern stained-glass style lamps and navy walls, is toned down and more sophisticated. With a few nods to the iconic Spur look, like the cow-hide booths.
The play areas have been refreshed. Each has an immersive theme with games and decor to match (Adventure Mountain at Golden Spur, and Enchanted Forest at Texas Spur).
And of course, Spur is still the place to be for kids' birthday parties. Everything you need is included: Set up and cleaning, party decor, and a free gift for the birthday child. And the kids' birthday meal combo includes a main meal, fruit juice or soda, soft serve and a Spur Party Box.
There’s even customisable party invitations on the Spur website.

There’ll be a more adult-focused area for smaller, more intimate occasions.
Plus wine lovers will be happy to hear that Golden Spur in Rondebosch has a new wine cellar, with labels that range from affordable to premium. The Protea range is on offer which is great for an everyday-drinking wine.
Other highlights include Anthonij Rupert wines like Optima (a blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, and petit verdot) and Syrah, noted for its rich, spicy finish. Or the Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage, which is renowned for its intense dark fruit flavours and excellent balance.

As Spur has kept up with the changes of its customers, they’ve remained a space for creating joy. For the freedom that it provides for families and the hearty food we all know and love: Ribs, burgers, steaks, buffalo wings, chops, quarter chicken, schnitzels. As a place of many South African gatherings – from birthdays to first dates, work events to sporting games, Spur will forever be the place for memories.
